Missonal Living ReThink

So I have been thinking through the concept of Missional Living beyond my seminary education! Really, one of the things that has always grated me personally is HOW quickly good ideas become methodologies and HOW quickly we (the CHURCH) attempt to make it into the next greatest thing!

The simple reality is missional living... or a missional lifestyle is something that we have always been called to as God's people in this world where He has placed us! From the time that Jesus challenged those closest to him with the words found in Matthew chapter 28 (see the Great Everyday Commission) we have all been called to move beyond our comfort zones to reach out to the people in our neighbourhoods, our workplaces, our classrooms, our playgrounds and where ever we find ourselves on a daily basis!

In fact, each one of us is CALLED to the same MISSION as God’s people and that is to reach out to those God places around us in our circles of influence with the GOOD NEWS of God's desire for them to come to KNOW Him and ENGAGE Him in a REAL… LIFE-CHANGING relationship! In fact, missional living despite ALL the current literature and writings really BOILS DOWN to one simple thing and that is God’s people… LIVING OUT the GREAT COMMISSION by ENGAGING the GREAT COMMANDMENT! Missional living is about fulfilling the GREAT COMMISSION… through the GREAT COMMANDMENT to LOVE those God has placed around us!

Sometimes the simple things are the best in the long haul and I will continue to read and learn about the latest thoughts on the Missional movement OR whatever the latest wording maybe... but in the long haul I will continue to encourage those God places around me to make a solid commitment to reach out in LOVE to those in their circles of influence with the Good News of God's deep desire to engage them in a life-changing relationship beyond their wildest dreams!
