God REMEMBERS!

“You’ve kept track of my every toss and turn through the sleepless nights, each tear entered into Your ledger, each ache written in Your book.” ~Psalm 56:8 Message Bible

This morning as the rain falls outside my office window on what is a typically Spring day in Maple Ridge I read David’s words in Psalm 56 and was drawn to the verse above. This verse leapt from the screen of my computer where I was reading it in YouVersion (this is a phenomenal application check it out… http://www.youversion.com). This verse from the pen of David caused me to stop, ponder, and reflect.

You know, many times as a pastor I have said to people that God speaks to us in His WORD which is why it is so important for us to read the Bible. We read not for some kind of credit or to check it off some list of Christian duties, but in order to be present and hear from the ONE who authored this amazing collection of writings! Now, as we read we do not necessarily read for information about God, but we read in order to learn more about God, to learn more about His love for us and to understand His plans and purposes for our lives and the lives of those around us!

So, as I read this verse above I was struck by the idea or the reality that God REMEMBERS every toss and turn, ever ache and tear that flows from our lives. The reason for this is I have personally been living a long battle with my health for the past 2 ½ years, and there have been many nights where all four of these things that David mentions in this psalm were a reality in my world! Most of us live with such a present day reality that we don’t consider the challenges that a lack of health can bring into our lives, and I for one, was certainly one of those people. This journey has been a deep challenge and many nights and days I must admit I have felt very alone, and the pain, uncertainty, and frustration has left my eyes more than a little moist!

BUT amazingly, in this little section close to the middle of the Bible, David states that through it all… God REMEMBERS… which must mean that He was there in those moments! In order for God to REMEMBER He must be there with us as we go through whatever it is we face on our daily journey here on this planet He created!

Now… here is an even more amazing thought connected to this reality and that is not only does God REMEMBER… He doesn’t FORGET! David tells us that God has been there, and witnessed our struggles and trials, and He has written them down in the book of the Lamb. He has recorded the moments and will one day clear the slate clean when we stand in His presence.

God REMEMBERS… he never FORGETS… which means that in the long haul He has NOT FORSAKEN us… or FORGOTTEN about us in the good, the bad, and everything in between.

As Paul writes in his famous letter to the early churches in the great city of Rome…

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” ~Romans 5:3-5 NLT

Thanking God for His REMEMBRANCE…
